Underwater filming is never a single rental line. It is a package with four parts: a camera and lenses, something watertight to put them in, lighting, and people who have done it before. MediaVision supplies the package rather than the box.
Two housings, two jobs — and the camera that goes in each. For surface, splash and half-and-half work down to about 4 m, and for very dusty or dirty environments on land, we carry the Scubacam Underwater Housing / Splash-Bag, which takes the ARRI ALEXA Mini. For real depth we carry the Gates FX6 Underwater Housing, rated to 300 ft / 92 m with full mechanical camera control and the Gates Precision Port system for dome and flat ports, built for the Sony FX6. Both camera bodies are ours and both are listed in this category, so you are booking a matched set rather than hoping a housing fits.
Lenses. Lenses come from our existing stock rather than being duplicated here — see lenses. Tell us the shot and the depth and we will match glass to port.
Rebreather support. We stock Sofnolime 797 CO2 absorbent for closed-circuit rebreathers, which is what makes bubble-free, silent filming possible when the camera is working close to marine life.
Underwater lighting. We do not hold underwater lighting in Mauritius at present. On shoots that need it we bring it in as part of the package rather than leaving you to source it from a continent away — tell us early so the lead time sits inside your prep, not your shoot days.
Crew. Underwater work is crew-led more than kit-led. See our underwater and technical crew for divers, underwater camera operators and safety.

Scubacam Underwater Housing / Splash-Bag

Scubacam's range of housings is designed to be operated just above the water surface or down to 4m below it, or in very dusty or dirty environments.

Supported by a lightweight yet strong anodised aluminium framework, the Scubacam splash housings are made from very hard-wearing, robust polyurethane and are sealed with a specialised YKK watertight zip made to the U.K. M.o.D. specifications, which is welded to the housing, ensuring a 100% watertight seal.

The camera is inserted through the zip, and the housing is rendered waterproof by closing the zip. The clear heat-sealed PVC windows allow the user to view the camera menus, displays and indicators. All the joins and seams of the unit are double-stitched and taped on both sides for added security.

Scubacam splash bags require minimal tools to install, operate, and remove the camera assembly - A "dry" studio rig can be installed with almost no adjustments due to the ARRI standard dovetail inside all housings. All other operating adjustments are designed to be done by hand.
