Visiting productions hit the same two problems in the Indian Ocean: the equipment is far away, and the people who know that equipment are somewhere else again. It also protects the shoot. Equipment failures on location are usually handling problems, not hardware problems, and technicians who work with the kit every week are the cheapest insurance a production can buy.
